Hills wins overall, but Jansen extends his lead
Despite having to change his motor on Friday night, Lendl Jansen was able to extend his advantage at the top of the championship log.

Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema 2) and Vaughn Hills (Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Rhema 2) shared the race wins, but Hills took the trophy for the overall victory at the third round of the 2026 DOE Formula Vee partnered with CIM Lubricants.
Jansen looked to have things under control in Friday’s practice sessions when he was the only driver under the 1’10” mark in the first two practice sessions, but things changed in the final outing of the day. Jansen’s motor cried enough, necessitating a late Friday night while it was changed, and the top six in the session all bettered 1’10”, led by Vaughn Hills.
Vaughn Hills lost none of his pace overnight and claimed pole position from stablemate MD Bester (Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Rhema 2). Gert van den Berg (DOE Quality Parts & StartMyCar Rhema 2) was just 0.010” behind Bester, while Shaun van der Linde (Truck City Boksburg Rhema 2) had his best qualifying session to line up in fourth place. Jansen could only manage fifth in his repaired car alongside Jaco Schriks (Cube Coatings Rhema 2). The top six were covered by just over half a second, promising some close racing later in the day.
Brandon Hills (Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Rhema 2), Theodore Vermaak (DOE Quality Parts & StartMyCar Forza), Peter Hills (Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Rhema 2), and Marcel Blignaut (CIM lubricants / Mangaza Racing - First 4 Men Forza) rounded out the top ten, with the top two in the association championship, James Carter (Rhema 2) and Anton van der Merwe (VDM Orthotics & Prosthetics HR-1), in eleventh and twelfth.
The opening heat soon developed into an eight-way fight for the lead, with van den Berg leading the way from Jansen. The status quo remained until the fourth lap, when braking problems forced van den Berg to take the escape road at Turn 5, leaving him at the back of the field and handing the lead to the defending champion. The slight gap that Jansen had at the front was soon closed down by Vaughn Hills, and the pair of them slowly pulled away from the chasing pack, which was led initially by van der Linde. Schriks and Brandon Hills decided that the leading pair were getting away and made their way past van der Linde, but could not close the gap to the leaders. Vermaak, who was running at the back of the lead train, lost his right rear wheel with just a lap and a couple of corners to go when the wheel studs in the hub gave way, leaving him stranded in the gravel trap on the outside of Turn 6. As Vermaak lost his wheel, Brandon Hills made his move on Jansen to move up to third, but did not have enough time to make any impression on the leading duo. Jansen took the win by just over half a second from Vaughn Hills, with Brandon leading Schriks, dad Peter, and van der Linde across the line. Van der Merwe got the better of Carter to take seventh and the association championship win. Bester and Blignaut rounded out the top ten.
Jansen led the way from the Hills brothers at the start of the second heat, but halfway round the third lap, Vaughn made his move and took the lead. Just a corner later, Brandon made his move on Jansen to take second. The top five, Vaughn and Brandon Hills, Jansen, Peter Hills, and Schricks, slowly opened a gap to the chasing pack led by Bester. Just after half-distance, Jansen found a way past Brandon to reclaim second place, but before he could do anything about the other Hills brother, Blignaut crashed heavily at the exit of Turn 1. Luckily, he was not hurt, but the same could not be said for his car, and the red flags came out to allow the marshals to remove the wreckage.
Vaughn made sure he kept the lead from the safety car restart, with Jansen fending off pressure from Brandon, just a couple of car lengths back in the four-lap sprint. Peter Hills joined the leading trio and, despite jockeying for position, they opened a gap to the chasing pack. With just a lap to go, Peter got past Brandon to take the final podium position, but couldn’t make any impression on the leading pair. Vaughn took the flag from Jansen, with Peter in third ahead of Brandon. Schriks lead the chasing pack ahead of Bester, Vermaak and van der Linde. Van der Merwe, in ninth, was again the leading association championship contender, with van den Berg rounding out the top ten.
When the times in the two halves of the race were combined, the top nine remained as they were at the end of the second part. The only change came in tenth, where Carter displaced van den Berg, who dropped to eleventh.
Vaughn Hills topped the day’s overall standings, with Jansen and his brother, Brandon, joining him on the podium.
The next outing for the Formula Vee brigade is on the 24th and 25th of July, when they will head to the Autódromo Internacional de Maputo in Mozambique.
