DOE Formula Vee heads to Red Star
Can van den Berg hang on to the lead.

The second round of the 2026 DOE Formula Vee partnered with CIM Lubricants takes place on 15 & 16 May at Red Star Raceway outside Delmas.
Ten weeks after the competitors got their 2026 championship off to a thrilling start at Zwartkops Raceway, 18 competitors will take to the 4-kilometre circuit to deliver more of the same.
Gert van den Berg (DOE Quality Parts & StartMyCar Rhema 2) tops the championship standings after the first round, but Brandon Hills (Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Rhema 2) is only three points adrift, with defending champion Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema 2) another three points back.
Peter Hills (Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Rhema 2) made the best of a poor qualifying session by his high standards at Zwartkops to end the first heat at the back of the leading group in fifth, and went one better in the second heat. He sits in fourth place on the log, just a point ahead of Jaco Schriks (Cube Coatings Rhema 2), who is three points ahead of Theodore Vermaak (DOE Quality Parts & StartMyCar Forza), who joins the fray fresh from his exploits at the Simola Hillclimb.
Shaun van der Linde occupies seventh place, but has not entered the Red Star event at the time of writing, so is certain to drop down the table. The first to benefit from van der Linde’s absence is Marcel Blignaut (CIM Lubricants/ Mangaza Racing – First 4 Men Forza), who is just a point behind in eighth.
Anton van der Merwe (VDM Orthotics & Prosthetics HR1) and Mile Stewart (Direction Management Forza), the top two in the Association Championship, are ninth and tenth in the overall standings and could challenge those above them if things go right.
Several drivers outside the top ten didn’t get the results they wanted at the opening event due to mechanical failures. They will be looking to bounce back at Red Star, so the championship table could look completely different late on Saturday afternoon.
Friday will be dedicated to practice sessions to get the cars set up for the demands of the circuit, with its long straights and twisty sections. The drivers will tackle qualifying at 08:55 on Saturday morning with the first race, over eight laps, scheduled for 11:20. Race 2 should get underway at 14:45.
